Innovative teaching

ST PAUL’S Primary School in Monbulk values community and the uniqueness of the individual within the school population of children, parents and teachers.
Its teaching and learning is centred around the core subjects of English and mathematics.
Staff use innovative teaching practices to embed the skills of English and mathematics within the school’s ‘inquiry learning areas’.
The inquiry focus for this term is a whole school investigation of ‘The 9 Values for Australian Schools’.
Each class level takes an aspect of the values and shares their learning with the rest of the school.
The senior classrooms are investigating the implications of each of the values and are designing interactive projects to heighten community awareness of the need to practice each value.
The middle school classrooms are exploring how to be ‘the best person I can be’.
In the junior area, the children are learning about the nine values through traditional fairytales. Each level participates in active and engaging investigations.
Staff make an effort to ensure that all learning is relevant and purposeful while emphasising the importance of literacy skills.
The school is also part of a mathematics project that skills teachers and children in the application of engaging and challenging maths learning.
