BUDDING Tarzans can get back to nature this week with the opening of Belgrave’s long-awaited jungle-style adventure.
After more than two years, the park, the first of its kind in Victoria, opened on Monday and is set to see many swinging from the tree tops.
Glen Harrow Cottages owner Lou Hesterman has leased the three to four acre parcel of land to the adventure tourism operator.
He said the land behind his bed and breakfast at 2 Cole Avenue, Belgrave, had become impossible to maintain.
Mr Hesterman said the park was a fabulous way for the land to be utilised while boosting eco-based tourism in the Dandenongs.
Dandenong Ranges Tourism’s Michael Axel said it was great to see the jungle adventure park final open to the public.
“It’s a new tourism product for the area.
“It’s something that is not available anywhere else that is reachable from here,” he said.
Mr Axel said the park would be a great addition to the pristine forests.
He said it would not only appeal to tourists but locals and even school groups.
“It’s also sympathetic to what we have here. It plays on the strengths of our native flora and the spectacular aspect of our trees and forests,” Mr Axel said.
The park, known simply as Trees Adventure, features a tree-top obstacle course, with several aerial platforms connected by wire ropes.
There is something for all to enjoy from kids right through to adults.
Those looking for a bit of an adventure can spend two hours at the park experiencing nature in a completely different way.
The park will be open Monday to Friday from 11am to 5pm and on weekends from 9am to 5pm but can only take up to 60 people at one time.
Bookings can be made by calling 0410 735 288 or by logging onto www.treesadventure.com.au.
