Low, that’s the score

By Stephen Walter
HIGH scoring was expected when Healesville hosted Gembrook Cockatoo in perfect conditions, but it was just the opposite. Gembrook’s defence was outstanding all day, holding the Bloods to just three goals while Gembrook finished with 10.
The Brookers set the win up in the first half, going to the long break with a 32-point lead, and the second half was a battle of the backlines with only four goals kicked. Gembrook’s Lee Clark was outstanding up forward booting six of his team’s 10 goals.

Best: Gembrook: N. Laversha, A. Walker, R. Clark. Healesville: J. Goding, L. Gardiner, T. Krikas.

LAST year’s premiers, Upwey Tecoma, took on Mount Evelyn at Mount Evelyn and came away with a hard-fought 12-point victory. The contest went right down to the wire and will be hard to top this season.
Mount Evelyn started slightly better and looked just a touch more polished than Upwey in the first half and went into the long break with a nine-point lead.
Upwey came out after the break and started to show some of last year’s premiership form to hit the front by five points at three-quarter-time.
If not for inaccuracy it could have been further ahead after a 5.6 to 4.4 term.

Best – Upwey Tecoma: S. Dawson, J. Orger, S. Mitchell. Mount Evelyn: B. Farrugia, S. Tesoriero, C. Haworth.

Best: Belgrave: P. Gough, J. Boek, K. Stasek. Powelltown: S. Camilleri, B. McDonald, C. Ozols.

THE first half was outstanding: Seville had the ascendancy in the first quarter with six goals to four, but Thornton hit back to take the lead into half-time after a seven-goal-to-two second quarter.
Seville should have put this game away in the third term but scored a wasteful 2.9 to Thornton’s 1.2, which saw Thornton holding a three-point lead at the last change. Seville finished stronger and finished the day with 4.3 to one goal in the last term to win in what some would consider a lucky victory. Score:Seville 14.17 (101) d Thornton Eildon 13.5 (83)
