Opposition high for aerial plans

THE Friends of the R. J. Hamer Arboretum has ramped up its campaign to stop a proposed rope-style adventure park in Olinda.
More than 200 people attended a meeting on Tuesday, 13 April in a bid to stop the development.
They believe Parks Victoria has already rubber stamped the project and fear it will ruin the arboretum.
The proposal has met with increasing anger over a lack of consultation.
But Park Victoria said the proposal was just the first step and has since released a flier outlining the proposed plans which feature tree mounted aerial platforms connected to zipline and suspension bridges. Park Victoria expects to have a draft concept plan later this month which would then be exhibited for public comment.
Friends of the R.J Hamer Arboretum spokesman Julie Rose said the group would be meeting with Monbulk MP James Merlino this week to discuss their concerns.
