THOUSANDS were nursing sore feet on Sunday after taking up the challenge of one of the most gruelling charity endurance walks.
More than 727 teams and 2924 walkers took part in the Oxfam Trailwalker which passed through Mount Evelyn on the weekend.
The last teams crossed the finish line on Saturday night after spending 48-hours walking from Wheelers Hill to the Yarra Valley.
Many stopped along the way for a rest and a pit stop at check point six at the Graham Colling Reserve in Mount Evelyn.
Trailwalker spokesman Leigh Stewart said the teams had demonstrated team work on and off the trail to walk together and work to raise cash for Oxfam.
“All weekend we have seen people push themselves to the limit to walk 100 kilometres and for the last few months we’ve seen teams got to enormous lengths to raise money for Oxfam’s work with poor communities around the world,” he said.
Oxfam has collected more than $2.3 million for the cause but is calling on the public to dig deep to help push for the $2.7 million target to help provide clean water, shelter and food for people living in poverty around the world.
