UPWEY is set to be an unlikely star in the next Underbelly telemovie.
Film crews descended on the town last week with part of the flick being shot in Mahony Street.
The unlikely suburban street was one of a number of locations across Melbourne chosen for the filming of Infiltration, the second telemovie in the new Underbelly Files.
The film is based on the best-selling book Infiltration by former Victorian police detective Colin McLaren.
It follows McLaren’s time as an undercover operative along with a female officer who infiltrated the N’Drangheta – the Calabrian mafia based in Griffith in NSW.
Posing as a dodgy art dealer, Mr McLaren and his partner risked their lives daily as they ingratiated themselves with their targets, becoming trusted friends and business acquaintances.
Fresh from his performance in the film Animal Kingdom, Sullivan Stapleton stars as McLaren, a man who befriended those he knew he must ultimately betray.
The all-star cast also includes Jessica Napier, Valentino del Toro, Buddy Dannoun, Henry Nixon and Totti Goldsmith.
