A LOUD explosion was heard as a caravan in the driveway of an Upwey property erupted into flames on 27 September.
The Mahony Street fire started shortly after 1pm from an electrical fault and quickly engulfed the caravan backed up against the house.
The home’s occupants and their neighbours bravely attempted to quell the blaze using buckets of water and a single garden hose before fire crews arrived on the scene.
They managed to stop the fire spreading to a nearby boat, house and an adjoining property despite the danger from further smaller explosions coming from gas cylinders in and around the caravan.
Three CFA units, including Bayswater Fire Brigade, which provided breathing apparatus support, arrived soon after the fire started.
They took 10 minutes to get the fire under control without further loss of property.
No one was injured in the incident.
