COMEDIAN Em O’Loughlin has always hankered to perform.
“As a six-year-old I used to sit on the front fence in an old organza ball gown with mandarins stuffed down the front to keep it up,” she said.
“I would recline in what I considered to be a luxurious and scintillating pose, smile and ponder at which lucky passerby might notice me.”
“Being on stage is like having my own private front fence.”
Em O’Loughlin will perform on the Burrinja Cafe stage this Saturday 9 October from 8pm.
She’ll present her one woman comedy show about losing 85 kilograms, ‘How I made my arse look smaller simply by pulling my head out of it’.
“The other thing I loved as a kid was food. Any old food,” she said.
“As long as it wasn’t nailed down I would eat it.”
In her own words, Ms O’Loughlin was “super morbidly obese”.
“Yeah, baby. Super … that is because all that fits is a cape,” she said.
“I had my own gravitational pull – like a big pink sweaty planet – small objects like cats, dogs, children all get sucked into my gravity and I’d find them wedged in a fold of flab.”
The show sold out at this year’s Adelaide Fringe and a show at the Toff in Town last month.
