YARRA Ranges Council has received more praise for its bushfire preparations post-Black Saturday.
The shire last week won a second bushfire-related award in recent weeks, this time for its work with vulnerable residents in the Fire Awareness Awards at the RACV Club in Melbourne on 27 October.
It recognised their bushfires awareness and preparedness work with vulnerable residents in the Yarra Ranges.
Over 18 months the shire sent out brochures and relocation kits to residents, interviewed and surveyed them and held conducting surveys and holding community information sessions to help residents prepare their own bushfire survival plans.
Council workers then organised bushfire relocation arrangements with 60 clients.
Of those, 16 needed council support for transport to leave the area, and private accommodation arrangements in the case of bushfire relocation.
