HILLS youths have lit up central Melbourne in two spectacular song and dance performances to mark the beginning of the festive season.
The Hart School of Dance in Sassafras performed on the red carpet of Myer’s televised Christmas parade on 13 November.
Fifty youngsters aged between six and 25 shared the stage with the casts of Mary Poppins and Hairspray, entertaining a large crowd of onlookers and those watching through the Seven Network’s television broadcast.
Hart’s founder Sue Lowery said teachers, parents and students “couldn’t feel any prouder” of their achievement.
“We were just so grateful for such a unique opportunity.”
Students from Billanook Primary School also played a major role in Melbourne’s Christmas festivities.
They helped launch Federation Square’s free Christmas program, Spirit of the Square, with a special public performance.
The Billanook students performed alongside more than 30 primary and secondary schools from around Victoria as part of the three day music program, Festive Harmonies.
Billanook Primary’s conductor Gaye Murphy said her school had performed in the city twice before.
“It’s in front of a huge audience,” she said.
“It’s just a really positive experience.
“Some of the mums come in too and it’s a really exciting day for everyone.”
