ZEDI Knight’s three-and-a-half-length win in the Yarra Valley Cup was the highlight of the 10th Cranbourne Tricodes meeting last Sunday.
In the $80,000 NMIT Yarra Valley Cup, six-year-old gelding Zedi Knight, ridden by Danny Nikolic and trained by Brendan McCarthy, won comfortably over Falken and Rocking Force.
McCarthy thought the horse ran brilliantly.
“It was (Zedi Knight’s) first time racing over 1400m and he handled it well. He got to the lead gradually before the turn, accelerated and kicked away down the straight,” McCarthy said.
McCarthy and Nikolic said the horse performed great and could run over longer distances.
“Danny thought the horse did it very easily. He said he wouldn’t be surprised if it could get to 1600 metres,” McCarthy said.
Harness racing’s big race for the day, the Group 3 Equinade Bruce Skeggs Trots Cup, was won by the five-year-old mare Arizona Blue, driven by David Aiken and trained by D. Heath.
In the greyhounds, the City of Casey Victoria Cup was won by Shimaguni, who is prepared by R. Redenbach.
The Cranbourne Tricodes had nine thoroughbred, eight greyhound and seven harness races.
