CASEY residents are encouraged to get a move on and help raise funds for the YMCA youth mentoring program in the Casey community.
Casey Aquatic and Recreation Centre (Casey ARC) will be holding a 10-hour indoor bike class on Saturday 30 April, between 8.30am and 5.30pm in the newly developed RPM space.
The 10 hours stint will be broken up into 10 one-hour classes, with participants given the choice to attend as many sessions as they want.
There is also an option to join as a team and share the load throughout the day.
The classes will raise money for the YMCA youth mentoring specialist in the Casey region, who aims to empower young people in the local community who have been identified as at risk, to reach their potential.
Young people are matched with a carefully selected and trained volunteer mentor who provides them with support and guidance.
Rebecca Graham, YMCA youth mentoring specialist in the Casey region, said growing the program was a priority and the program relied heavily on the support and funds raised by the community.
“Currently we have 10 mentors and 10 mentees in the program who have built some great relationships through their weekly interactions together,” she said.
“We can really see the difference that these matches are making in the lives of the young people. We are constantly recruiting and training new mentors, with another eight who were put through their training just last week.”
Anyone interested in joining the bike ride or who would like more information about donating or becoming a volunteer youth mentor can contact YMCA Youth Mentoring on 9705 5000.
