Shear support

IN light of last month’s World’s Greatest Shave event, Oatlands Primary School has shown its support for one of their students who has been diagnosed with leukaemia.
Year 6 student Antonia was recently diagnosed with leukaemia, and it was her teacher Matt Kenny who first offered to shave his head to help raise money.
In the end, a total of three teachers, two parents and 10 students from the school along with three firemen from the Narre Warren North Fire Brigade all volunteered as well.
The 17 volunteers had their heads shaved at a school assembly on Monday, followed by moving addresses from families and affected students.
Assistant principal Marguerite Jones said it was an amazing experience for students and adults, and the school was more than happy to show support for Antonia’s family.
“The school community is behind Antonia as she undergoes treatment and the awareness that the children got from the event was very powerful,” Ms Jones said.
The total amount raised is still yet to be determined, with a sausage sizzle still to be held, but the school is aiming as high as possible.
“We are hopeful that the donations will tally over $1000,” Ms Jones said.
