LEGENDARY AFL player and coach Stan Alves congratulated student leaders from Casey’s primary and secondary schools at the 2011 Casey Student Leaders Reception.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Shar Balmes and Stan Alves OAM delivered speeches to 260 young leaders at Cranbourne Community Theatre.
Cr Balmes encouraged the newly-appointed student leaders to make the most of the opportunity before them.
“Grab hold of this chance and do everything you can to make your school, your community and the world around you a better place than it was before,” she said.
Through the annual Student Leaders Reception, the City of Casey acknowledges newly-appointed school captains and student leaders from Casey schools, and encourages them to become better leaders. It provides an opportunity for school leaders to meet one another, share ideas and be inspired.
Stan Alves drew on examples from his career as an AFL player and his success as the coach of St Kilda Football Club to inspire the students.
He encouraged the young leaders to strive for their personal best and to find “the giant within”.
“Let yourselves be motivated by the possibility of success, not limited by the fear of failure,” he said.
The reception also included presentations from four of Casey’s young leaders who spoke to their peers about their own experiences of leadership and why they felt it was important to be involved in their community.
