Cooking up the goods

A HEALTHY food initiative started by popular chef Jamie Oliver has officially begun and Narre Warren residents are encouraged to support it.
The first Australian Jamie’s Ministry of Food has opened its doors and leading electrical retailer and co-founding project partner, The Good Guys, are asking customers to have their say and get behind the healthy eating initiative.
Customers can donate a percentage from their in-store transaction to help support Jamie’s Ministry of Food Australia, which will assist community organisation The Good Foundation to open more centre’s and encourage people in local communities across Australia to adopt healthier eating habits and to start cooking.
Jamie Oliver said The Ministry of Food was about celebrating great food with guidance, love, care and attention.
“It’s for anyone, from any background and it really does change lives,” he said.
The first Jamie’s Ministry of Food centre, which opened in Ipswich on 14 April will offer a 10-week cooking course, of one 90-minute cooking class per week. Each class has 12 participants and is completely hands-on so participants get to see, smell, feel and taste everything they cook.
The Good Guys Narre Warren owner Matthew Sheedy said the centre opening was a good start for tackling a nation-wide issue and believed Jamie’s Ministry of Food Australia was a positive step in the right direction of the whole community.
“There’s a real groundswell of people who are ready to make changes in their lives, to improve their health and wellbeing,” Mr Sheedy said. “And I am one of them.”
Jamie’s Ministry of Food Australia plans to build, equip and run permanent and mobile centres around the country.
