ENVIRONMENTAL volunteers were praised for their contribution in the City of Casey at the World Environment Day Volunteer Recognition Function.
The event, held on 3 June at the Civic Centre in Narre Warren, paid tribute to the work Casey’s volunteers have done in protecting and enhancing, the local environment.
Fifteen volunteer environmental groups were represented at the event, including the Conservation Advisory Committee.
Members of the committee give their time to provide feedback to the council on a range of environmental topics including conservation, heritage and sustainability.
They are also actively involved in a number of community-based environmental activities.
City of Casey Mayor Shar Balmes thanked all the volunteers and spoke about the importance of the council’s objective of achieving an environmentally sustainable municipality.
“The efforts of environmental volunteers are critical to council’s goal of creating a sustainable Casey, and council is here to work in partnership with the community,” she said.
