Williams miffed over VCAT ruling- Craig Williams. 23587

By David Nagel
ONE of Cranbourne’s favourite sons, jockey Craig Williams, missed a shot at racing history in Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup, when his appeal to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) was dismissed on race eve.
Williams was suspended for his ride on Dream Pedlar in the Bendigo Cup on 26 October and took his fight all the way to the top in order to ride eventual cup winner Dunaden.
The former Cranbourne resident was disappointed about the way the hearing unfolded.
“All I wanted was the common rights of any other citizen, and I don’t think I got that,” Williams said.
“It’s just very disappointing for the appeal to play out the way it did.”
When asked whether he thought he received a fair hearing at the VCAT appeal, Williams replied, “no comment.”
Williams’ manager, Mark Guest, was more disappointed with the way Racing Victoria handled the appeal process, saying they had the opportunity to overturn the original decision if they wanted to. “There was no discretion used at all, I don’t know why, it was like they’d already made up their minds,” Guest said.
