Cooking up their calendar

NEXT year, Casey Manor residents and their families will be able to try out a dozen new delicious recipes- one for every month.
The aged-care residents launched their tasty recipe calendar for 2012 last week, which was the brain child of volunteer Kathy Burgstahler, in collaboration with Leisure and Lifestyle co-ordinator Debbie Akister and Administration Officer and Group Admissions co-ordinator Samantha Freeman.
“As one of the regular activities features cooking and talking about recipes, we thought we’d combine the two and have a calendar of favourite recipes as told by the residents themselves,” Ms Burgstahler said.
“To take it a step further, we involved the residents in a fun photo shoot, featuring them holding various cooking implements which turned out to be an absolute hit. Even those without recipes wanted to get involved,” she said.
Ms Burgstahler said the recipes were tested and chosen to reflect each month.
Once the final recipes were picked and the photo shoot complete, South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich and her electorate officer offered to print and bind 100 copies of the calendar.
“Without their support and assistance, the project would not have succeeded,” Ms Burgstahler said.
The calendars will be given to the residents as presents and are available for staff and family to purchase.
