HALLAM residents of all ages will benefit from a new partnership between Big Brothers and Big Sisters and Willcox Gym.
The partnership aims to expand a community fitness program in the gym, which in turn will generate income for Big Brothers Big Sisters to remain in Abbott Road complex and continue to expand its group mentoring programs.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is currently leasing an office space in Hallam that houses a gym setup for the purpose of running a group mentoring program called The Big Brotherhood, and has struggled for two years to meet the ongoing costs of leasing the premises.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Group Mentoring co-ordinator Nett Bailey said she hoped the new partnership would help expand the organisations programs
“We are excited about this new partnership with Willcox Gym as we have been exploring ways of keeping our current office/factory space, and getting the full potential out of the gym space we have set up,” Ms Bailey said.
“The Big Brotherhood is such a successful site-based program, providing boxing classes to underprivileged young people- and this gives us the opportunity to see this program grow and expand and hopefully, include The Sisterhood in our program delivery in the future.”
Travis Willcox, who operates Willcox Gym Inflicting Fitness, an exclusive personal training centre, said he was proud to be involved with the local organisation.
“I am a keen supporter of, and volunteer with, Big Brothers Big Sisters and know that this is a practical way I can give back and assist them with raising funds for their organisation,” Mr Willcox said.
Local businesses Iron Edge and Australian Barbell Company have also supported the initiative with donations of exercise and gym equipment for participants to use.
