THE Narre Warren Bowls Club held the final of both the ladies’ and men’s club championships on Sunday and the enthusiastic crowd was treated to some high quality bowls.
Nancy Pugh and Jeff Parker claimed this year’s titles and are both deserving winners of the club’s most prestigious titles.
The ladies match was a great game with the early leader being caught and the ends being even until the final three ends. Pugh proved the age old adage that when the going gets tough, the tough get going and she gradually got on top of a gallant Enid Gibb, winning 25/22.
The men’s final was a great exhibition of draw bowling with both players entertaining the spectators with their skill. Parker led for most of the day but Paul O’Day refused to give in and pushed Parker all the way to victory. In the end it was the experience of Parker that shone through, winning 25/14.
Club members in attendance were then treated to a sausage sizzle where all had the chance to congratulate the two winners on their splendid achievement.
Saturday’s round nine of pennant was cancelled by Bowls Victoria due to heavy overnight rain.
