Just too popular

A POPULAR Over 50s Social Group in Berwick will have to squeeze into their crowded community centre until the new Timbarra Community Stadium is built.
On any given Monday or Wednesday, the Timbarra Community Centre is bursting at the seams with members of a club who meet to network, get active and have fun.
In October, the Timbarra Over 50s Social Group submitted a petition to council calling for an extension to the centre to cater for not only their growing club, but several other community organisations that use it.
A report came back to Casey Council this week which stated there were no funds available for an extension of the building but an offer of an extra afternoon at the Timbarra Community Hall was offered to, and taken up, by the Over 50s Club to help relieve space issues.
Council will also monitor the utilisation of the Timbarra Community Hall and the needs of the Timbarra Over 50s Club.
President of the Timbarra Over 50s Social Group John McCormack said the club was growing at a rapid rate and many of the residents lived nearby.
Cr Simon Curtis said he was disappointed that the Timbarra Stadium was not ready for use yet after it was gutted by fire earlier this year, but said once it was complete, it had the potential to have a positive impact for the club.
“The club is a victim of its own success,” Cr Curtis said.
“They really do use every part of their facility. They have the potential to use the new facility and I look forward to that time.”
