Structure change brings six wins

HAPPY days are here again. After all six sides were beaten last week; the Cranbourne selectors wielded the axe and changed the structure of the sides for Round 11 of Saturday Metro Pennant.
They obviously got it right, as all six sides had wins this week.
Next week is the last game before the Christmas holiday break.
The top side played away at Lilydale on their new needle-punch carpet, which was running at a surprisingly slow 13 seconds.
It was a tense game with the lead changing back and forth throughout the day.
The breakthrough for Cranbourne came late in the game, when the newly promoted Jack Wylie played some big “Hollywood” bowls to lift his rink three shots clear of their opponents.
This inspired the Cranny side to dig deep and finish strongly, winning on three of the four rinks. New recruit Brent Reiner skipped his first game for Cranbourne and impressed.
This win was a vital one for Cranbourne, and gives them a good chance of playing in the finals.
The second side played at home against a vocal Burden Park side in a very tight game.
A rousing pre-game speech by team captain Rob Reid inspired the Cranbourne players, particularly Ian Barrenger, who played brilliantly all day. Aided by his partners in Barb Gribbin, Roger Roscoe and Peter Elgar, the rink got away to a good start and continued building up enough shots to cover narrow losses on the other three rinks.
The win sees Cranny knocking on the finals door, just out of fourth spot on the ladder.
The third side played away against Keysborough, and good wins on two of the four rinks were enough to get Cranbourne over the line. John Mulder’s rink did well once again, winning by 17 shots.
Strong wins at home by the rinks of Rod Mills, Don O’Neill and Steve Boyd gave the fourth side a win, overcoming Carrum’s top side by 17 shots.
The fifth and sixth sides both had wins, picking up 16 points apiece. Rob Sorensen’s rink of Frank Coulter, Dave Meiklejohn and Phil Bibby had a day out winning by a massive 26 shots
