YARRA Heights Dance Academy (YHDA) was established in 1996 and now has more than 300 students.
YHDA offers dance classes for all ages – from 12 months to adults – and from beginners to advanced students.
Classes are held six days a week during the day and evenings.
Most are in Kilsyth South in YHDA’s spacious, purpose-built dance studios, which are unmatched in the area.
Classes are also held in Healesville and Wandin North.
YHDA has many dance styles on offer, including hip hop/funk, jazz, ballet, tap, contemporary, cheerleading, theatrical and stretch/technique.
With its range of styles, levels, venues and times offered, YHDA is sure to have a class to suit everyone.
The academy specialises in dance classes for toddlers and was one of the first schools to offer dance to this age group, so it has many years of proven experience in the area.
These are very popular classes and the children love them and keep coming back with big smiles on their faces.
YHDA offers a boys only jazz/funk class and also runs classes for children with physical and intellectual disabilities.
The academy’s aim is for students to learn and experience dance in a professional, fun and relaxed environment. It caters for those wanting to just have a bit of fun, learn new skills and keep fit, as well as students who want to be a little more serious about their dancing.
Classes are structured so that students gain maximum enjoyment by using modern, age-appropriate music and movements.
All teachers are qualified, friendly and professional and ensure that each child is treated equally and given the individual attention they require.
The teaching style is well-balanced – disciplined but not strict – so that children still enjoy their classes and have a good relationship with their teachers while achieving results.
YHDA is a registered Australian Academy of Theatrical and Ballet Dancing member and offers optional examinations, competitions and performances under this syllabus.
YHDA has a 100 per cent pass rate in examinations, with most students achieving honors.
Its performance troupe has won many awards and is often invited to perform at prestigious social events.
YHDA holds an end of year concert at Yarra Valley Grammar School, Ringwood. There is no costume making involved.
Fees are reasonable and many discounts are on offer. Free trial classes are available to all new students.
There are no uniforms required so the only extra outlay up front is for shoes.
Prospective students can book a free trial and see what YHDA is all about.
