SPECTACULAR spills and billycarts barrelling at breakneck speeds treated strong crowds at Sunday’s Upwey Billy Cart Races.
The seventh annual eventfeatured plenty of thrillsand spills, with one child, Ryan, catapulted from his cart in a Ranges Class 7 to 9 year age group heat.
But the bold driver was uninjured, got back into his cart and continued down the steep Main Street.
Police were on hand to measure cart speeds – which topped40 kilometres an hour – andCFA crews were spreading thefire safety message.
Schools, sporting clubs and community groups took the opportunity to cook up a snag, raise some funds, and sign up new members, and local musicians entertained race onlookers.
Skateboarders also took to the track for the first time this year, in an initiative to get more teens involved in the day.
