Chamber push for tourism boost

By EMMA SUN
THE Mount Evelyn Chamber of Commerce is searching for businesses that will boost the town’s tourism.
Chamber of Commerce president Kathie Freeman said the chamber was working very hard to bring a good mix of suitable businesses and had already received some interest from prospective traders.
“We want to find businesses that complement what we already have,” she said.
“We would like more shops that would stay open on the weekend for the tourist market, such as an old fashioned toy shop, an antique shop or a quilting shop.”
She said it was important that Mount Evelyn was seen as more than just a drive-through town and become recognised as the tourist spot it deserved.
“We want to boost tourism here, and we also want to push up the profile of Mount Evelyn,” she said.
“People drive through it and don’t even realise we’re here, but we have a lot to offer with flora and fauna, such as nature walks and our beautiful scenery.”
