Under the microscope

CARDINIA Shire’s high rate of road trauma will see it put under the microscope as part of a new regional study.
The Cardinia Shire and Yarra Ranges region is one of three locations chosen for research into young, risky drivers in regional Victoria.
A Transport Accident Commission (TAC) spokeswoman said the research would help guide the campaigns and public education strategies for the TAC, by gaining an understanding of the thoughts and behaviours of Victorian drivers.
There will be four focus groups from each area, consisting of about 10 people in each group aged between 19 and 39.
Mitchell and Ballarat/Golden Plains were the other two regions involved in the study.
“Those areas are chosen because they have high trauma-to-population ratios,” the spokeswoman said.
