An extra $250,000 will be contributed to the HillTop project in Olinda, following an announcement from the Victorian Government.
The donation, under the Community Support Grants program, comes after $100,000 was earlier pledged by the government, in July.
The HillTop project is the official title for the new community sports pavilion that will be constructed at the Olinda Reserve. The new facility will act as a sport and community centre for the Olinda and HillTop communities, offering a gymnasium, multi-purpose community spaces and change room facilities.
In addition to funding from state and local governments, the HillTop project has also seen an extraordinary fund-raising contribution from the local community. Yarra Ranges Shire Council has committed $1 million to the project while the local community has raised $350,000, which includes $250,000 from the Bendigo Bank.
Eastern Victoria Region MP Edward O’Donohue said the additional donation announcement was an “exciting day” for the five clubs that make up the HillTop Recreation Association.
Mr O’Donohue congratulated the HillTop Group, the council, the Bendigo Bank and volunteers of the local community, recognising how their vision is now coming to life.
Similarly, Yarra Ranges Streeton Ward Councillor Noel Cliff believes the HillTop project will deliver a number of benefits to the community.
“Yarra Ranges Council is proud to be involved in this project, and it’s fantastic to see the community, council and State Government working together in the best interests of our community,” Cr Cliff said.
“The opportunities to improve community participation in sport and promote health and well-being in the Olinda community are tremendous, and I look forward to seeing construction begin.”
HillTop Recreation Association President Steve Scott said he was delighted the project would soon be delivered.
Mr Scott thanked the State Government, the Council and all those involved in fund-raising for the HillTop project.
“On behalf of all the clubs in the HillTop group and Olinda community, I thank the State Government, council and those involved in fund-raising to help make our dream a reality,” Mr Scott said.
