MT Dandenong Primary School held its annual arts show recently, displaying a year’s worth of students’ work for their parents and friends.
The students did artworks in various media, including paintings and drawings, with the help of local artists Paula Ewington, Joy Serwylo, Marta Salamon, Karen Scott and Ches Mills. More than 200 works were on display.
Principal Mike Leonard said the show was a great way for the students to have their work recognised.
“Our belief is the arts really support student learning, encourage creativity, abstract thinking, support literacy and numeracy and the students absolutely love it,” he said.
“They actually learn skills with art, so they build on the skills year after year. Whether they become professional artists or not, they will have a hobby they enjoy for the rest of their lives.”
