Little miracle

LACHLAN Fraser is lucky to be alive.
But meeting this bubbly four-year-old you would have no idea that two years ago he suffered a life-threatening condition.
Faced with a high temperature, vomiting and cold hands and feet, Lachlan’s mum Simone noticed pink and purple blotches on his skin and rushed him to the Royal Children’s Hospital.
There he was diagnosed with having a rare case of Meningococcal B, a life-threatening blood infection.
“There are only 50 cases of Meningococcal B in Victoria a year,” mum Simone said.
“It all happens in less than 12 hours and its crucial they are taken to the hospital.
“Lachlan was very lucky, but some people lose limbs or have learning difficulties.”
Simone said the 12 months after Lachlan was diagnosed were tough, but he is feeling better than ever now.
“He had a really low immune system so he got every cough and cold going around but he’s doing really well now,” she said.
To say thanks to the staff at the Royal Childrens Hospital and to raise awareness, Simone is holding a Bubs and Kids Market at the Jean Eales Pavilion at the Lilydale Show Grounds on Saturday 16 March from 9am to 1pm.
All money raised from the gold coin donations upon entry will go straight to the hospital.
“Last year we made $2700 and really hoping to top it this year,” she said.
“These nurses are angels.”
