A FIFTEEN-year-old boy from Cockatoo will be racing for national acclaim for the seventh time next month.
Callum Alderson will be travelling to Mt Gambier’s Mac Park Circuit in South Australia later in the month to ride his motorcycle in the Junior Road Racing National Titles.
Callum, who has competed at the nationals six times before, said that the races are a great experience.
“It’s really exciting – you’re usually against 30 people in the one race,” he said.
In preparation for the nationals, Callum practises riding most days for at least an hour and goes to the gym three times a week.
“In terms of mental preparation, I go on YouTube and watch videos of what my role models do,” he said.
“Arthur Sissis and Valentino Rossi inspire me.”
Callum, who began riding motorcycles at the age of five, said that his family have always supported his racing and that he hopes to compete internationally.
“I would love to get into the Moto GP world championships,” he said.
“Just going over there to do testing would be amazing.”
He said he would like to head to Spain and earn a place with the Red Bull Rookies, which would be a pathway into MotoGP.
The Junior Road Racing National Titles event at Mac Park will be held on 30-31 March and is the first of six rounds.
Callum will also be competing in the Pirelli Road Racing Series under 16 division later in the year.
