Seville stands up

MOUNT Evelyn faced a tough battle against Seville in the Grand Final of cricket’s top players in the Yarra Valley.
The final scores for the Don Strachan Shield lay at 3/93 for Seville to Mount Evelyn’s 89 on Sunday, when Seville got the glory.
But Mount Evelyn player Chris Anderson said the future looked bright for the young team.
“For us with such a young side, five players under the age of 20, the future looks bright,” he said.
“Although we were beaten by a more experienced and accomplished side, we will learn from the experience and the year as a whole.”
He said for the young team to make the final was a great effort.
“It was a pretty tough battle early on, an even contest between bat and ball, but with Aitkin at the wicket joined by Tim Dwyer, Seville got to the victory target with seven wickets in hand,” he said.
“Three quick wickets in the middle part of the innings gave Mount Evelyn a glimmer of hope of stealing an unlikely victory as Rovers stars Kane Jones and Shane Luck turned the screws.
“But once they passed the score the game was done.”
