Monbulk Rangers Under-14 FFV Boys v Ashburton
The under-14 boys played Ashburton at its home ground on Sunday and it was wet and slippery.
Monbulk dominated the game, out playing and scoring Ashburton.
It was a great five nil win, led by Monbulk’s two strikers Argie Bishop and Josh Vogrinec with two goals each with Sam Vorpasso chipping in with one.
The midfield did well to control the game and set up wave after wave of attack.
Cameron Ash, playing in his preferred role of attacking midfield, had a great strike on goal which looked destined to find the back of the net until it was clawed away by the opposition goal keeper.
Ryan Smit also pushed up the ground and tested the keeper on a couple of occasions but he was again up to the challenge and managed to keep the score respectable.
The defence, Kane Holden, Natalie Doolan and Ryan Smit, had a quieter day but when they were called upon they made sure the opposition didn’t manage a shot on goal therefore young Connor Warren in goal didn’t have a lot to do.
Hugh Chirgwin showed his fancy footwork on more than one occasion and was a constant threat on the right side of midfield, whipping the ball into dangerous areas.
Jesse Ralph-Payne and Sam Vorpasso combined well to set up many forays forward and all in all it was a great team effort by the boys for a comfortable win.
Jess Ralph-Payne was player of the match.

Monbulk Rangers v Ballarat
The Monbulk Ladies this week travelled to Ballarat in what was set to be two tough top of the tables match.
As usual the weather in Ballarat was cold and wet.
The Reserve girls kicked off in what was a scrappy first half, with a little help from the wind. Mikayla Newman sent the ball into the top corner of the net from 30 yards out.
The girls kept the pressure on right to the full half and it rewarded them with another goal. Hayley Newman was kept busy in the second half and made some critical saves to keep the score line 2-1. A great win for the girls.
For the seniors match the weather conditions remained slippery and wet.
The girls took no time in finding the back of the net with a composed finish from Jennifer Cameron.
The Monbulk girls continued to provide pressure all over the park and with a tactical substitution Rebecca Saber made a big impact through the middle of the park.
Half time saw the girls 3-0 up.
The second half would require the girls to increase the pressure due to the significant wind advantage to Ballarat.
With a compressed backline and precision passing through the middle the girls through a header from Alicia McKillen made the score line 4-0.
This is the first win for the Senior Ladies in Ballarat and they remain on top of the State League Division 1 ladder.
Next week the ladies will play Mooroolbark in the local derby at home.
Sunday evening kick off at 5pm for the Reserve Ladies and 7pm for the Senior Ladies.
