Reserves dig deep

Monbulk Rangers Soccer Club
Monbulk Rangers FFV Ladies 1st and Reserves (State League 1)
Monbulk Rangers v South Yarra
THE Monbulk ladies travelled to South Yarra and played in some less than ordinary conditions.
The Reserves took to the field light on numbers and really had to dig deep for a full 90 minute performance.
The girls went down 1-0 early on but they continued to battle well in the strong winds and went in 2-1 at half time.
Routhy was creating all sorts of opportunities up front and was rewarded with two goals and her best performance for the year.
Alex Gardner made sure South Yarra were beaten with a well composed finish, final score 3-1.
The seniors were out to keep their form going and take the next step towards a league title.
The girls started in less convincing fashion and lost the ball easily in the poor ground conditions.
Michelle DeBeor was providing some great hassling up front and was denied an early goal due to being off side.
She was, however, rewarded later in the half to take the girls into the break 1-0 up.
After being provided with feedback at half time about giving the ball up and not making the most of our fast players out wide the girls came out in the second half with a win only on their agenda.
Bec Saber was a battler in the conditions and pressured well up front.
This paid off with another ball going in the back of the net.
Marika Kamoda was kept busy late in the game and was required to be on her game in the windy conditions.
Mirika made some crucial saves and played the girls out well from the back.
The game was all sealed up when Michelle got herself on the score sheet for the second time, Monbulk coming away 3-0 winners.
The next challenge will be Melbourne Uni at home on Sunday 1 September, kicking off at 7pm.
This game could see the girls’ league champions if they are able to bring their A game and win on the night
