FOR years, Mount Evelyn’s netballers have had to change in their cars before games.
That is set to change following a pledge from Casey MP Tony Smith to provide $45,000 towards the construction of change facilities at the club.
Mr Smith said the amount, combined with a $41,000 contribution from Yarra Ranges Council, would enable the project to start next year.
“Netballers suffer from a chronic lack of facilities and I am well aware that this is a problem across our region,” he said.
“This is a big step for one club, which has worked very hard to develop an innovative plan to reduce construction costs by utilizing the Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE who will build the facility as an educational project.”
Mount Evelyn Football Netball Club’s John Stroud said the club wholeheartedly welcomed the funding pledge.
“We have been strong advocates for local sport, especially for women, and have worked hard to develop and grow netball in the area,” he said.
“If the Coalition is successful, this funding, together with the council funding will enable us to build very soon and provide our girls with somewhere to change, train, shower and have team meetings.”
