IT’S her first attempt – but Belgrave’s Rachel King is going for gold when she races up the Eureka Tower next month.
The self-proclaimed fitness fanatic first heard about the Eureka Climb from a friend in the CFA and thought she’d give it a go.
“I’m really into sports and fitness and I was talking to a friend in the CFA who thought it would be something I’d really be interested in,” Ms King said.
“I looked it up and it sounded great.”
Currently studying to be a personal trainer, Ms King said she hasn’t had to change her training too much to be able to make the 1642 step climb.
“I do a lot of training anyway,” she said.
“But I have been trying to get to the 1000 steps twice a week.”
She’s aiming to make the climb in 20 minutes, the record holder taking only 10 minutes to get to the top.
Eureka Climb is in the top 20 of stair climbs in the world.
It will be held on 17 November and several local fire fighters will also take part – wearing full uniform.
