WITH the promise of more rain than Emerald Golf Club has seen in 215 years, members still rolled up ready for the fray.
Emerald members fired up for a round of two man ambrose and after the teams were picked, proceeding began.
While looking for an errant ball in the undergrowth, the team of Dave Aitken (27) and Mark Starick (10) caused a few problems.
Aitken bought the strokes of handicap into the combination and Starick supplied the golfing prowess.
Their net 64.75 saw them easy winners.
Not to be completely outclassed were Ken Hill and Peter Clowes (8) who came in next with 65 followed by Ken Sumsion and Mike Litchfield (9.75) on 66.25.
Allan Ecclestone was nearest the pin on the fourth, Litchfield the seventh, Clowes the 12th, Brock Reynolds the 13th and Peter Jones played a glorious shot on the 18th to snap the pro pin spondulicks into his purse.
The ladies pair of Irene Scott and Brianna McCoy took all before them to card an imposing and successful score to slate the opposition.
The last semi-final in the match play championship took place between captain, Andrew Cutting (11) and young tyro Broc Reynolds (18).
The match ebbed and flowed across 18 holes and the result then was square.
After a deep breath they set off to the first tee to play till a winner was crowned or one drowned in a bunker.
That hole resulted in Cutting gaining the upper hand when he won that hole by a stroke.
Cutting will now face off against that wily old campaigner Ken Sumsion (28) in the final.
On Wednesday, when the oldies rolled in for the weekly dose of Overly Fondled Golf (OFG), using OFG handicaps, a round of stableford was the offering.
Ken Sumsion (27) defied the odds and flogged the living daylights out of the rest with a massive 46 points.
There was a large swish of golfers behind who all scored 39 to be pleased with their efforts but copped nil reward.
This list included Dennis Fuller (10), Moss Fuller (20), Graeme Fergus (23) Bob Kennedy (17) and Sepp Krummenacher (28).
