SKATEBOARDERS from around the Yarra Ranges and the world took on the slopes of Monbulk over the weekend as part of the Victorian Downhill Festival.
In just it’s second year, the Sunday festival was again popular with youngsters and budding skateboarders and skaters alike.
Presented by Australian Skate Race Association with support from Yarra Ranges’ Youth Services, the festival included longboard riders.
Chandler Ward councillor Jason Callanan said the event was a great opportunity for young people in the area to participate safely and legally in this internationally recognised sport.
“Racers can reach speeds of up to 75kmh going downhill.
“Not only is this event exciting to participate in, it’s great to watch too,” Cr Callanan said.
