Teen driver dies in crash

By REBECCA BILLS

AN 18-year-old driver has been killed in one of two crashes along the same stretch of road over six minutes this afternoon.
The first incident happened at 1.03pm when a small blue car hit a tree on Monbulk-Silvan Road just before Hunter Road in Mount Evelyn.
Police, ambulance and CFA members attended the scene.
Belgrave police Sergeant Craig West confirmed that the driver, a young woman from Mooroolbark, died at the scene.
Just six minutes later, another crash occurred less than a kilometre down the road, which resulted in a man being air-lifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said the man suffered head and ankle injuries.
“He is currently in a serious but stable condition,” they said.
