A local author is bringing new meaning with her new children’s book.
The educational story written and illustrated by Kayleen West is her second book published in 2013.
Without Me, is a children’s picture book that depicts a runaway child, who wants to leave home but worries about those he will leave behind.
“We’ve all thought of running from difficult situations,” Ms West said.
“Without me was created for our kids, who live in today’s face-paced, decreed internet world.
“I suggest teachers and councillors use Without Me in conjunction with Edward de Bono’s six thinking hats to build effective evaluation skills,” she said.
Ms West writes and illustrates her children’s books to encourage and equip children to navigate their relationships, emotions and reasoning.
Without Me is aimed at children between the ages of five to nine and highlights a sense of belonging and safety with a comical plot.
“I created a fun, unassuming story that journeys a child through their inner dialogue, emphasising healthy reflection with a message of value in reciprocal relationships.” she said.
Ms West’s initial childhood dream was to become a writer and illustrator of children’s books however she was encouraged to venture to graphic design.
Since 2009, Ms West returned to her dream and became an established author, Without Me being the fourth edition to her repertoire.
“It seems I have not outgrown the passion for picture books.
“I love reading them myself, often having a good giggle in the process,” Ms West said.
Ms West is working on three more titles for release in 2014.
