LOCAL artists are painting pictures for youth development.
The tiffaney bishop COLLECTIVE (tbC) is run by artists to offer young people a funded working studio environment to locate their art practices.
The tbC, located in Upwey, aims to launch the young artists’ careers.
More than 40 local artists have contributed to the initiative using free space, materials, mentoring and access to participatory art projects.
The initiative has included many artists to complete the projects.
Several art projects are in production and development which are engaging young resident artists in local, national and even international artistic experiences.
“Whenever tbC paints a public space, tagging seems to abate or completely stop,” Ms Bishop said.
The most recent large scale project to be completed by tbC was the Street Art painting along the Upwey Skate Park.
The Upwey project was funded by the Yarra Ranges Council with support from Upwey township as well as the community.
“Actively connecting and engaging with young people in our hills communities has become an important priority for tbC,”
“Over the past 18 months projects like this one at Upwey have engaged a significant number of young people in long-term, positive ways with more respect for public property,” she said.
tbC is working on another art project in Belgrave to paint on the rear of Burwood Highway shop buildings.
