POLICE cordoned off nearby streets as a man believed to be brandishing a weapon held them at bay for three hours in Mount Evelyn on Tuesday.
Members of the Special Operations Group were brought in to deal with the situation as the man, a 48-year-old from Lilydale, threatened self-harm in gruelling temperatures.
Police set up a staging area near the David Road property where members of the SOG squad were flown in by helicopter, with a result achieved a short time later.
Lilydale CIU Detective Senior Constable Mark Smithwick said the man was taken into custody without incident using tactical options carried out by the SOG.
“The man was covered in blood when arrested, he had a cut on his hand from broken glass,” Det Sen Con Smithwick said.
“He was taken into custody and charged with numerous offences and is expected to face a magistrate at a later date.”
