BENIGN conditions greeted the members at Emerald Golf Club last Saturday as two teams were vying for the Alex Wee Cup.
This also is used for the qualifying round of the club’s 4BBB championship.
On the back of a fabulous round of golf by Steve Town (14), who shot a 75 off the stick including four birdies, his teaming with Ross Martin (10) came in with 50 points to win the day.
They are also the number one team in the draw for the next round.
In second place by winning a count back were Peter Jones (19) and Leigh Morison (16) on 46 as were Kameron Geeves (13) and Dean Shannon (16).
Also on 46 were Graham White (13) and Allan Ecclestone (18).
Ross Martin was nearest the pin on the fourth, Peter Glasscock the seventh, Barry Cook the 12th, Mike Litchfield the 13th and Martin also picked up the pro pin pennies on the 18th to round out a very successful day.
The ladies’ comp and top qualifiers were Davina Mackey and Irene Cranston who showed the other women how to play this format.
The seniors’ pennant team played host to Glen Waverley, which, like most teams that front up at Emerald, found the going tough as the local crew showed them how to play this course.
Ken Hill won 4/3, Peter Clowes was one up, Leigh Morison won 6/4, Bob Kennedy was one up while Mick Petrie and John Piggott came out square to give Emerald the win nine points to one.
Ken Hill, on his way to a great win, managed to eagle on the par four 10th hole – which is no mean feat as anyone who has played the hole will attest.
Wednesday’s Overtly Faint Golf (OFG) using OFG handicaps saw Mick Petrie (25) star with a net score of 62.
Next was Mike Litchfield (12) on 63, including 25 putts with Graeme Fergus (19) on 64 and John Piggott (19) on 65.
Next Saturday members front for a round of stableford and a chance for the handicap pennant team to hone their skills for the first round the following week.
