McDONALDS says all signage will meet requirements, despite anti McDonalds protestors claiming that the developers were caught “red handed”, installing signage 25 per cent higher than mandated by VCAT.
No McDonalds in the Dandenong Ranges spokesman Garry Muratore said that the vigilant community had been operating a continued watch on the construction, recording various breaches in regards to safety, traffic and construction.
He said they recently noted that the “blade” (the structure for locating the illuminated M) appeared to be significantly higher than indicated in the plans and renderings submitted to the council and VCAT.
A McDonalds spokesperson said that when the restaurant opens the sign will be in accordance with DA requirements, but did not comment further about whether it was a human error, or the extra height of the blade was a normal part of the building process before being cut to size.
“The height of the blade was argued long and hard at VCAT,” Mr Muratore said.
“For McDonald’s, who appear to have deliberately ignored these conditions this is yet again another display of the arrogance and contempt they have exhibited to our community.”
On Wednesday construction workers were seen removing the blade.
