Step up security
BELGRAVE police have warned fitness fanatics using the 1000 Steps to leave their handbags and personal items at home.
Again, police are trying to get the message through to visitors to not leave their handbags or phones in their cars while they make the trek up the stairs.
Sergeant Mick Hall said that cars were still being broken into, despite repeated reminders to those using the steps.
“People need to hide their bags or leave them at home,” Sgt Hall said.
“Leaving it on the front seat is an open invitation to break into the car.”
Machette threat
POLICE are calling on witnesses to an assault in Belgrave Heights during the early hours of Sunday morning.
Sergeant Mick Hall said four people were standing outside a hall, waiting to go home from a party, when they were approached by a man who complained about the noise before producing a machete.
Police are also investigating claims that the man then produced a firearm before leaving the scene.
“We believe it was a local, considering they walked away and were complaining about the noise,” Sgt Hall said.

Commercial break
THERE have been a number of commercial break-ins in the Mount Dandenong area.
Police are investigating the break-ins that occurred over night between 1 April and 2 April in Kallista and Olinda businesses.
It is believed that those breaking in were looking for cash.
Point the finger
FINGERPRINTS will be analysed after a spate of cars being broken into in Upwey.
Sergeant Mick Hall said after a large spate of car break-ins in Morris Road, police would check the fingerprints with local well-known offenders to try to solve the case.
Injury smash
THREE passengers suffered mild injuries during a collision in Mount Evelyn on Sunday morning.
Mooroolbark Leading Senior Constable Peter Hamilton said police attended the scene alongside CFA and ambulance.
