THE Emerald RSL is continuing to raise its profile throughout the local community by donating two iPads and two crocheted rugs to Fernlea House.
The recent appointment – under the presidency of Peter Maloney – of Yvonne Leeman as a welfare officer has enabled the club to better reach out to ex-service men and women and their dependants where there’s a need for assistance and support.
But the club also assists members of the greater community in cases of genuine hardship or need.
The Fernlea House palliative care facility recently tried to fund-raise to buy a couple of iPads but was unable to scramble together enough money.
So, late last month Ms Leeman visited Fernlea to present the iPads, and rugs – donated by Mary Paxton – to CEO Sharyn Turney, her staff, and Fernlea’s guests.
Fernlea House was established by the local community to address an identified local need of providing respite for people dealing with a life-limiting illness. Guests are cared for by trained staff and volunteers in a home-like environment on a third of an acre Emerald Monbulk Road block.
