THEY are stars in their own right, and Grade 6 students in Emerald now have it on their backs to prove it.
The students have opted to include local plant, the Emerald star bush, on their jumper designs, a move that has pleased local environmental groups.
Emerald for Sustainability (EmfSus) co-ordinator Lee Fuller said she was excited to see the students had put the threatened local flora on their jumpers.
“2013 was the Year of the Emerald Star Bush, and it was as a result of an ongoing community partnered project to raise the profile of this threatened local flora,” Ms Fuller said.
“We spoke with Emerald Primary School last year, in the hope that the whole school would adopt this logo.
“Well, the whole school hasn’t, as yet, but the Grade 6s have.”
Principal Mark Carver said the students had a chance to chose what they wanted on their jumpers, and took on the Emerald Star Bush.
“We have a clear focus on environmental issues,” Mr Carver said.
“So it is wonderful to see the kids get on board.”
