FINGERPRINTS are being analysed after a surge of car break-ins in Upwey.
Police are investigating more than 13 thefts from cars in the areas between Griffiths Road, Morris Road, Leonard Road and Forrest Park Road.
Yarra Ranges CIU Senior Constable Jamie Cummings said cars in the area were being targeted overnight.
He said in most cases cars were either unlocked or were parked in open garages.
“There have been a number of reports, including stolen powertools, trailers and general personal items,” Sen Const Cummings said.
“Equipment from a mobile coffee van has also been stolen – which makes us think there must be at least two people working together.”
Others who have had items stolen in the area, but haven’t reported it because their cars were unlocked, are asked to contact Belgrave police.
“It doesn’t matter if your car was unlocked, if something was stolen we want to hear from you,” Sen Const Cummings said.
“We also want to hear from anyone who may have seen suspicious behaviour or knows any information about these incidents.”
