Plan backs sports

FOUR netball courts, a playground and a community garden have been earmarked for Pepi’s Land as part of the revised Emerald Community Facilities Spatial Plan.
A listening post will be held on Tuesday 15 April (tonight) at the Emerald Library – giving residents the chance to have their say on the Plan, which includes Chandler Recreation Reserve, Kings Road Precinct, Worrell Recreation Reserve and other areas in town.
The Cardinia Shire Council previously prepared a draft spatial plan for feedback on the future allocation of community facilities in Emerald.
The exhibition of the previous paper for community consultation in mid-2012 attracted 59 submissions from residents, and the information from the feedback was provided to council.
The revised draft plan summarises the outcome of the feedback and council discussion.
Identification of a suitable site for the potential future provision of an aquatics facility in Emerald has been separated from the process due to the complexity of the intricacies of the centre.
Residents are asked to attend the listening post, or write to council about the revised draft, especially in relation to Pepi’s Land and the Kings Road precinct.
The draft plan identifies a number of active recreation activities that could be accommodated to flatter the land at Pepi’s.
The provision of netball courts, pavilion and car parking are all being propsed in the plan.
Council spokesman Paul Dunlop said about 30 people attended the previous listening post.
He said they spoke to the council staff and Ranges Ward councillors and most supported the proposed location for a skate park at Worrell Reserve.
“It also provided an opportunity to clarify issues or concerns for a number of residents in the Kings Road precinct,” Mr Dunlop said.
“Again, the council is keen to hear the views of residents at the listening post on Tuesday. Residents are also encouraged to provide feedback either via an online survey on council’s website, or in writing. Submissions close on Friday 2 May.”
The listening post will be held at Emerald Library, 400 Gembrook – Belgrave Road between 4 and 8pm.
