IT’S every mother’s nightmare – and easy to do.
But when Rebecca Warren locked her eight-month-old daughter Georgia in the car last Wednesday outside the Monbulk Aquatic Center she was thankful for the fast acting emergency crews.
“I can’t even think about how it happened,” Ms Warren said.
“I remember putting the keys in my nappy bag, then went to get the pram out and then somehow the door closed.
“Oh my god, I’ve locked my daughter in the car – I was screaming.”
Looking back on the drama now, Ms Warren said that the situation was very dramatic, but thanked the quick response from local police and fire crews.
“Georgia was amazing, at the start she was crying, but then she settled,” Ms Warren said.
“She was just looking at all the people surrounding the car – I think she was fascinated by the fireys in yellow.”
Monbulk police sergeant Mark Knight said police, emergency services and a mechanic all arrived at the car park not long after the call was made.
“The Hyundai car was tough for us to get into, so I called the RACV to help us out,” Sgt Knight said.
“This, hopefully, acts as a reminder to other parents out there to ensure that they keep the keys on them when they turn off the vehicle.”
Emergency crews were also called to Mount Evelyn on Thursday when another child was accidently locked in a car.
