Rubbish trucks recycled

YARRA Ranges Council’s waste fleet has been given a freshen up with new look trucks and an expanded recycling service.
The new trucks have just hit the streets in some areas and will be in full operation on 1 October.
They boast new slogans and colours that co-ordinate with the colours of the rubbish bin lids.
Mayor Fiona McAllister said the colour co-ordination would help residents identify which trucks had collected in their neighbourhood.
The yellow trucks will collect recycling, light green for greenwaste and dark green for rubbish.
“The trucks also have GPS tracking so we know where they have collected, which enables us to help residents who may call up with inquiries about their collection,” she said.
The trucks also have slogans written on their side as part of an education campaign.
“Compost happens” is the message on the green waste truck, “Planning a comeback” for recyclables and “Such a waste” for the rubbish truck.
As part of the new service, from 1 October residents can recycle pots and pans and plastic bags, as long as they are placed within a single bag and knotted.
Residents should have now received their waste calendar and their three-year waste service guide which is full of information, hints and tips.
